Translation Services in North Bay – Economic Profile

North Bay with its population of about 54,000 people is located at the shore of Lake Nipissing in Northeastern Ontario.

It is historically considered the "Gateway to the North". Thanks to its location at the crossroads of transcontinental highways, railways, and air, the city has excellent connections to other markets, which ensures the rapid and economical transportation of people, products and raw materials.

The city's economy is diverse. Its main economic sectors include manufacturing services, health, education, tourism, I.T., telecommunication, transportation, and construction. The professional service sector has experienced significant growth and supports the business community in areas such as health and security, engineering, finance, education including post secondary, and legal.

In addition, the North American Aerospace Defense Command control center and the Algonquin Regiment, a Canadian Forces Army Reserve Unit, are headquartered in North Bay.

Tourism is also one of the most important sectors in the city's economy. North Bay offers numerous recreational activities such as walking, running, biking, rollerblading, hiking, bird watching, fishing, golfing, and skiing or snowboarding at Laurentian Hill. There are several beaches located on Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake as well. The waterfront experienced a complete transformation in the 1980s, and today offers many tourist attractions including a mini-train ride and two antique carousels. In addition, North Bay has a vibrant cultural scene featuring several events and festivals, an active musical and arts scene.

North Bay is a bustling college town and home to about 7,000 full-time students and thousands of part-time students. Its institutions of higher education include Nipissing University, Canadore College, College Boreal, and CTS Canadian Career College.

North Bay is a bilingual city: About 78% of the population have English as their mother tongue while about 16% are French speakers.

The city's diverse economy, its focus on national and international tourism as well as its bilingual community have contributed to an increasing demand for translation and interpreting services in North Bay.
